Disney got it right with his princesses. However, he also screwed over the men of the world.
All girls want to be a princess. When we're 5, and when we're 95. We all want to find our "Prince Charming," the perfect man. I hate to break it to you ladies, he doesn't exist. I don't want to sound like a bitter man-hating feminist, cause that's not where I'm going with this. Let's think about our mindset about being a princess.
Do we consider being a princess as being given everything we could ever ask for, being waited on hand and foot, dressing pretty, living in big castle like houses? Or do we think of a princess as being a person whose thoughts and ideas are respected and taken seriously, as someone who can make a significant difference in the world.
More than likely, we think of the fancy dresses, and crowns, and butlers. This is where we go wrong, this is what screws up finding your "Prince Charming" so to speak. The mentality that we come first, that we deserve perfection, and we deserve to be treated like we are perfection, that's what screws up many relationships. No, I don't feel we deserve to be treated badly. I feel that both parties in any relationship should be treated like a human being. As someone who will make mistakes, who has real emotions, and can be hurt and broken. Someone who will get mad, and stand up for what they believe in. Same goes for how a girl treats a guy. The human race is not perfect, if you expect perfection, you are going to be highly disappointed. Every guy will make mistakes, they will at points make you mad, make you cry, make you laugh, smile, love, hate, etc. I could keep going, but you get the idea. I'd prefer someone who will respect my ideas and opinions. Someone who will understand and forgive when I make a mistake. I am not and will NEVER be perfect. If I can't be perfect, how on earth could I ever expect anyone else to be?
Perfection only exists in God. You cannot find it anywhere else.

Beauty
"Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode of conduct,
a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude, and integrity can do a great deal to make a woman
beautiful." - Jacqueline Bisset
I'm on a long and winding road to becoming the woman I want to be. Its a journey that will take me til the day I die. I am ashamed at how the world views beauty today. It is not at all what God tells us beauty is.
Here is an exerpt from an article written by Carolyn Mahaney.
We are exhorted in Romans 12:2 not to allow the world around us to squeeze us into its mold. We need to ask ourselves if we have been captivated by our culture's definition of beauty ... or God's. Do our thoughts and actions regarding our appearance reflect a cultural standard, or a biblical standard? To answer these questions honestly, we need to understand God's perspective on beauty.
Scripture reveals the falsehood and futility of the quest for physical beauty. "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting" (Pro 31:30). Charm in the Hebrew means "bodily form." Form and beauty are two things that our culture esteems and pursues with fervor, yet God exposes our pursuit of the perfect figure and beauty to be idolatrous.
A survey of physically beautiful women in the Bible supports the admonitions of Proverbs. Physical beauty in Scripture is more often linked with trouble and temptation than with blessing and goodness. Many Old Testament stories of lying, cheating, stealing, murder, adultery, and idol-worship find their roots in sinful responses to female physical beauty (E.g., the accounts of Sarah in Gen 12:11-20, Rebekah in Gen 26:7-11, and Tamar in 2Sa 13:1-20).
Nowhere in the Bible are women instructed to wish, ask, or strive for physical beauty. Instead, God's Word warns us of the futility and deceitfulness of such a pursuit. Neither does the Bible portray physical beauty as a blessing for those who have it. Instead, it can create greater potential for being snared by sin (Pro 6:23-26).
However, there is a kind of beauty that we are to pursue. First Peter 3:4-5 tells us that a woman's beauty should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful.
I am striving to be more beautiful in God's eyes. His vision is perfect, while man's vision is impaired by human imperfections. I want to have a pure and perfect beauty. One that is sought after by God, and any man of God. I'm not saying that physical beauty is not important. God wants us to take care of our physical bodies.
I want to look back on my life, and be happy with the choices I've made, and know that God will be pleased with them as well when I finally meet Him.

Opportunities
"Opportunity is missed by most people because it's dressed in overalls and looks like work" - Thomas Edison
"Work". There's that nasty 4 letter word. Its amazing to look back and see how incredibly lazy society has become. How many of us gripe about having to go to work everyday instead of playing on the computer at home, or watching TV, when all most of us do is sit on our butts in front of a computer anyways. Seriously? You're going to complain about that job? I'd willingly take a job that pays me to sit for 8 hours a day! Sounds pretty nice to me!
How much of life have we missed out on because its not an easy task? Opportunities don't just present themselves in a nice package wrapped in ribbons. They come in box after box taped up in hermetically sealed boxes. (Ever get one of those gag boxed Christmas presents, where they tape up box after box one inside another? Thats what I'm talking about).
Hard work pays off, everyone tells us that as kids. (What do those adults know?) A lot. The harder you work for something you strive for, the more beneficial and fulfilling it is going to be.
World, get off your butts, and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.

Masquerade
"I'm not going to die because I failed as someone else. I'm going to succeed as myself." - Margaret Cho
Why are we so scared to be ourselves? Is it really and truely that bad? I can't imagine so. Its a lot of work trying to be something other than who we are meant to be. Can we be happy doing this? I don't think so. I've been there, I tried to be "someone else" just to be accepted by another person, because I thought it would make me happy. It didn't! Yeah, it might work for that person whose life seems so "perfect". But that's their life, not yours. And how do we describe that word "perfect". Can anyone give a material response to what perfection is? There isn't any ONE thing that can be perfection. What one person finds beautiful, another is disgusted by it. Throw your inhibitions on what is "perfect" out the darn window and take a good look around you. Find the beauty in the imperfections. It's what the world is made of.
Open up to yourself and find who you really are, before you open up to others. You'll end up a lot more content with where your life is at!

Into my World!
I've been thinking a lot about this lately. I've had plenty of hardships come my way. The loss of my brother and best friend is probably the most significant! I still remember that like it was yesterday. The pain is so intense, it damn near paralyzes you. There was a good chunk of my life that I literally can't remember doing anything productive. I was in such a deep depression and trance, I never thought I'd live through it. Then I found someone, who showed me what it meant to live again. He is my savior, The Savior. Of course, I believed in God, but I never fully understood who He was, and how BIG He was, and most of all, how much I NEEDED Him. I started looking back at things that happened shortly before my world crashed down around me and realized that God himself, put up a shield to protect me from even worse pain. I was the last person to see my brother that day. We were siblings, we fought, and we sure as heck, never used the "L" word around anyone, not even when there was no one. As he was walking out the door I yelled goodbye to him. However, 'goodbye' is not the words that left my mouth. Instead, the words "I love you!" were spoken. I can remember thinking to myself 'where the heck did that come from' and 'he's gonna beat me up when he comes home'. But he said it back, and walked out the door. I was a typical little sister, blamed everything on him, and of course, my sweet self could never do wrong 0:) so I never knew if he truely knew how i felt about him, and that I really did love him. Had those words not come out of my mouth that day, I would have lived with that guilt, regret, and ignorance for the rest of my life. THAT I don't think I would have lived through. He saved my life.
I've grown so much in the past 10 years. Its amazing to look at where I was then and now. I lead such a fulfilling life. Even when bad things hit, I know I'm going to be o.k. I love my family, my friends, I love finding the beauty in things that God created.
Do me a favor, when you think you're having a bad day... take a second to just step back and look at the big picture. You'll be amazed at what you see!
